Bring your own keys for paid upstream sources

Some packs wrap upstream APIs that require their own paid keys — FRED, ATTOM, Alpha Vantage Premium, Altos, and others. Pipeworx doesn't mark those up. Pass your own key per call via the _apiKey argument and you pay the upstream provider directly. The Pipeworx tier still counts against your daily/billed limit.

For sources that are free upstream (SEC, FDA, FRED Basic, ClinicalTrials, RxNorm, USPTO, Census, BLS, OpenAlex, EPA, NOAA, and ~280 others), no _apiKey is needed — Pipeworx covers all the upstream traffic.

Vertical bundles include managed paid sources

The Pipeworx Verticals (Housing, FinTech, Pharma, GovCon, Trade, Green, Agri) bundle packs by domain and include managed access to paid upstream sources relevant to that vertical — so subscribers don't need to bring their own keys for ATTOM, Altos, etc.

Vertical subscriptions are priced per-vertical and stack on top of your account tier. See individual vertical pages for current pricing.

What counts as a "call"?

One MCP tool invocation through the gateway. Protocol-level traffic (initialize, list_tools, list_resources, heartbeats) doesn't count against your daily limit or your paid bill.

What happens when I hit my daily limit?

Anonymous and Free tiers get an HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header until UTC midnight. Paid accounts have no daily cap — usage just accumulates against your Stripe meter.

Do I pay extra for the meta-tools?

No. ask_pipeworx, discover_tools, resolve_entity, compare_entities, and remember / recall / forget all count as standard calls — even though some of them fan out to multiple upstream packs in parallel under the hood.

Can I switch tiers?

Up or down at any time. Anonymous → Free is just signing up. Free → Paid is at /account. Paid → Free is cancelling your Stripe subscription; you keep your account and 2,000 calls/day continues.

Where do I see what I've used?

Signed-in accounts have a usage dashboard at /account showing calls, top packs, error rate, and (for paid) current period billing.
